Seniors awarded scholarships as school year winds down

As the 2020-2021 school year draws to a close, several Houston Independent School District seniors were awarded scholarships on Tuesday.

At Booker T. Washington High School, five seniors each were awarded $1,000 scholarships from the Texas Spring Cypress Chapter of the Links, Inc.

The recipients of the Anna James Scholarships were:

  • Abdulazeez Babajide
  • Vincent Hernandez
  • Mearquayla Johnson
  • Serena Eldridge
  • Jayla Wiley

Three seniors from across the district were awarded scholarships from Waldman Legal Group. The first-place recipient received $2,000, while the runner up and second runner up received $500 and $250 respectively. The winners of the Waldman Legal Scholarships were:

  • Cristian Moran, first place, from Houston Academy for International Studies
  • Miranda Galvan, second place, from North Forest High School
  • Yaritza Torres, third place, from Northside High School

Finally, Exotic Pop gave scholarships—for $1,000 each—to a pair of seniors. The Donnie Franklin Scholarship was awarded to Isabel Garcia, from Northside High School; the Charleston Wilson Scholarship was awarded to Joshua Martinez from Heights High School.
